چکیده

We present a study of 40 low-latitude unidentified 3EG gamma-ray sources which were found to be not positionally coincident with any known class of potential gamma-ray emitters in the Galaxy (Romero, Benaglia & Torres, 1999). We have performed a variability analysis which reveals that many of these 40 sources are variable. These sources have, in addition, a steep mean value of the gamma-ray spectral index, < Γ >= 2.41 ± 0.2, which, combined with the high level of variability seems to rule out a pulsar origin. The positional coincidences with uncatalogued candidates to supernova remnants were also studied. Only 7 sources in the sample are spatially coincident with these candidates, a result that is shown to be consistent with the expected level of pure chance association. A complementary search for weak radio counterparts was also conducted and the results are presented as an extensive table containing all significant point-like radio sources within the 40 EGRET fields. We argue that in order to produce the high variability, steep gamma-ray spectra, and absence of strong radio counterparts observed in some of the gamma-ray sources of our sample a new class of objects should be postulated, and we analyze a viable candidate.

Effects of Low Dose Gamma Ray on Some Hematological Parameters in Adult Rats

Introduction: The study aimed to find the low dose effect gamma ray on some hematological parameters in male albino rats obtained from the Mosul University, IRAQ, and also studied the radioprotective effect of black seed oil on the hematological parameters. Material and Methods: The system is made of 241Am as gamma source .The...

An inquiry into the nature of the gamma - ray source 3 EG J 1828 + 0142

The unidentified, low-latitude, γ-ray source 3EG J1828+0142 presents high levels of variability and a steep spectral index Γ ∼ 2.7. Here we propose a model for this source where the high-energy emission is produced by a galactic Kerr-Newman black hole. The model takes into account electron-positron annihilation losses in the calculation of the expected spectral energy distribution and can repro...

Population X: Are the super-Eddington X-ray sources beamed jets in microblazars or intermediate mass black holes?

Recent X-ray observations reveal an increasing number of X-ray sources in nearby galaxies exceeding luminosities of Lx >∼ 2 · 10 erg s. Assuming isotropic emission, the Eddington limit suggests a population of intermediate-mass black holes of M• ≫ 10M⊙. However, Markoff, Falcke, & Fender (2001) proposed that jets may be contributing to the X-ray emission from X-ray binaries (XRBs), implying tha...

ON THE ORIGIN OF THE MeV GAMMA-RAY BACKGROUND

In this paper, we suggest a new hypothesis for explaining the spectrum of the extragalactic MeV γ-ray background as observed by COMPTEL and SMM. We propose that both the flux level and spectrum can be accounted for as a superposition of non-thermal MeV tails in the spectra of Seyfert galaxies and other AGN. Although present detectors are not sensitive enough to obtain MeV data from individual e...

The Nature of the Faint Chandra X-ray Sources in the Galactic Centre

Recent Chandra observations have revealed a large population of faint X-ray point sources in the Galactic Centre. The observed population consists of ∼> 2000 faint sources in the luminosity range ∼ 10 − 10 erg s. The majority of these sources (70%) are described by hard spectra, while the rest are rather soft. The nature of these sources still remains unknown. Belczynski & Taam (2004) demonstra...
